Where does the phrase ‘ringing the changes’ come from? Apparently it is from church bell ringing in the 17th century. Bell ringers found that by swinging the bells in a larger arc, they could exert greater control over the space between chimes.
Look at the incredible patterns created by the number sequences!
Change ringing goes back to the early 1600s where church bells were rung in as many sequences, or changes as possible. If you have been reading this newsletter for a while, you will know I love a metaphor!
As in bell ringing as in life. What are the changes and sequences you haven’t tried yet?
How can you do things differently in the New Year? I don’t mean expecting yourself to have an overnight personality transplant, but where could you make an adjustment? Shake up your routine? Leave out a thing? Make room to add a new thing? Less television - more art? Less scrolling - more yoga? Less shopping - more walks in the park? It is an experiment - a fun one too, you don’t have to ‘give up’ anything.
Just a little replacement here and there. Change the sequence and ring it in…
Speaking of changing sequences, the Attentive Art Digital Planner for 2024 has three pages per month. One is a topical creative mindfulness exercise designed to help you solve something, understand something or release something. The next page is the calendar which also has space for noting creativity and self discoveries. The third page each month is a review page which ends with a quote on creative awesomeness.
You can either print it out or use it as a prompt, just print the pages you need or refer to it online. Totally up to you. Keep the exercises and refer back to them long after 12 months has passed. This will give you a great record of your progress through life.
The planner was brilliant value at £25.00, even more amazing at £12.50. Do the exercise each month then look back after 12 months and see how your perspective and habits have changed. It is like you, but better. Not a ‘new you’ as you are already great.
To take the bell ringing analogy a little further. If you dip your toe into quantum theory, you will find that all possibilities already exist, you just have to match the vibrational frequency of that possibility. If you think about the vibrational frequency of the church bells, the sound will be different with every sequence or change. So the vibration will be different as sound is vibration.
If you’re not a paid subscriber, I will leave you here with my very best wishes for the coming year. Paid or not, I sincerely thank you for reading and finding out about Attentive Art.
Read on for a vibrational frequency bell ringing worksheet where you can choose which bell to ring to call in the version of 2024 you most would like to have.
Plus, of course, the final beach photo of the year…
